Plans for second half lustrum year
08 January 2023 13:00We look back with great pleasure on the first half of our lustrum year. Activities such as the opening, the gala and the city-wide escape room have all been well received. There is plenty on the program in the second half of the lustrum year, some of which we would like to highlight.
We are currently mainly fundraising for the science afternoon for children from groups 6 to 8, which is scheduled for the end of February. To be welcome for all children we want to make this day free, where the donations that come in now will go. It would be great if we could also reach as many underprivileged children as possible. If you have any tips for that, we'd love to hear about it.
For the coming six months we would like to highlight the following activities.
January 14: online alumni day
Our alumni day will start on Saturday 14 January at 3:30 PM and end at 7:00 PM. During the alumni day there is enough time to catch up with your former fellow students. In addition, there will also be a lecture and an optional cooking workshop. Registration is possible at deleidscheflesch.nl/en/inschrijven/onlinealumni.
February 15: scientific symposium
The symposium on Wednesday 15 February will last all day and will take place in Scheltema. It is possible to attend lectures for mathematics and computer science as well as for physics and astronomy. One of the main talks for all participants will be given by James Grime, a regular guest at Numberphile. At the end there is the possibility to dine in the Snellius building. More information on the talks and how to sign up can be found at deleidscheflesch.nl/symposium.
March 26: children's symposium
On Sunday 26 March, we will be giving children from groups 6 to 8 a free interactive day in which we hope to enthuse them about our scientific background. The donations that are now being raised via SteunLeiden.nl will go to this symposium to book a nice suitable location and to make more material available for tests.
If you know parents who have children in our target group, you can help us enormously by bringing this to our attention.
April 22: Fleschtival
As the largest activity in our lustrum, we will be organizing a festival near Leiden for the entire city on Saturday 22 April. The Fleschtival will be a mix of local artists, stands and activities organized by our own students. Tickets for the Fleschtival are for sale at deleidscheflesch.nl/en/inschrijven/fleschtival.
June 3: physical alumni day
On the physical alumni day on Saturday 3 June you can physically meet and catch up with former fellow students. More information about this alumni day will follow later, but keep it free in the agenda.
